Jeanie was merely three months old when she was found in the streets of rural Louisiana. She was abandoned by her owners, presumably because he was a special needs dog that had a deformed front leg. The crippled dog was malnourished, dirty, and seemed like she would not last long. Thankfully, good-hearted people rescued her and found her a good home.
The first thing they did to help Jeanie was to remove his deformed leg surgically. It was hampering her ability to walk and run. Jeanie recovered quickly and eventually started training as a therapy dog. This is where her journey of helping people began.
Award-winning
Jeanie’s calm and gentle demeanor made her the perfect candidate as a therapy dog. She would go to children’s hospitals, schools, and seniors facilities to bring joy to people that need it. Her disability plus her cheerful character serves as a great inspiration to many people. Jeanie is so good at her work that many events featuring her have been organized.
In fact, she is so successful that she has been declared as American Humane’s 019 Therapy Hero Dog. She has an Instagram account where updates about Jeanie’s activities are regularly posted. Over 14,000 people follow her today.
When Jeanie is not out making people happy, she stays at home with her sister Pippa. She is also an adopted dog that has three legs as well. Despite their disabilities, the two dogs have the best time running and chasing each other. Hopefully, Pippa would someday become a therapy dog too.
But as for now, Jeanie continues to visit people who need her the most. And many of them say that the adorable pooch makes the world a better place to live in. Jeanie may not have had the best start in life, but she certainly has found her true calling.
