In the United States, when shelters get too overcrowded, they are left with no choice but to put them to sleep. This is why different groups and individuals are encouraging people to rescue and adopt pups from shelters instead of buying one.
Sir Darius Brown, a 13-year-old kid from New Jersey, has been making bow ties for shelters to help dogs get adopted faster. Since he was younger, Darius has always been an animal lover. And seeing the effects of Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma in 2017 on canines, he knew he had to do something to help.
Darius saw on the news and on social media that dogs were being transferred from Texas and Puerto Rico to New York, and he wanted to help these pups find their forever homes. With this, Darius started creating bow ties for pooches and would donate them to the shelters.
The boy started doing this project back when he was only eight-years-old. Back then, the bow ties he made were only for hoomans. Sewing helped Darius with his fine motor skills delay, which was first diagnosed when he was only two-years-old.
So to help canines get adopted, Darius wanted to make them look cuter with bow ties that had a matching pair for their hoomans. He made sure to make some for the cats in the shelters as well. After all the hurricanes, the boy still continued to make bow ties for animals and humans.
Darius wanted to make it his mission to help as many animals as he can. He believes that these creatures also deserve a home and all the love that they can get, just like hoomans. Every summer break, Darius dedicates all his time to making bow ties and visiting shelters.
Because of this boy’s lovely project, he has gained several fans online. Every time visits shelters, Darius would post pictures of cute pups wearing his bow ties, letting people know that they are up for adoption. His fans would find out about it and end up adopting the cute doggos.
Darius has been receiving numerous recognitions and donations from celebrities for his job well done. The biggest surprise that came to him was when he received a letter from former President Barack Obama, commending him for his wonderful initiative.
