Brianna was looking for a dog to adopt at the Jersey Pits Rescue page when she came across a post about an emaciated Pit Bull named Grace. She shared that she immediately felt an instant connection with Grace when she found out about the pittie’s heartbreaking story.
It turns out that Grace’s owner left her tied to a chain outside of the house ever since she was a puppy. Brianna immediately contacted the rescue group to inform them that she wanted to adopt Grace.
Brianna recalled that Grace was so scared that her tail was between her legs when they first met one another, so she approached Grace as slowly and gently as she could. Brianna spent a few minutes trying to earn Grace’s trust by reassuring her that everything would be fine, and luckily, the dog gradually opened up to her a little bit.
Brianna believes that Grace must have known that she was finally going to have a home after getting into the car. She recalled just how heartwarming it was to see Grace sleeping through the entire car ride and even using her lap as her dog’s pillow.
Grace was constantly looking for food when she first arrived at her new home. However, Brianna noticed that Grace would get nervous after eating her meals as if her dog would not get fed again.
Brianna also observed that Grace seemed to have separation anxiety because Grace would instantly panic the second she turns her back on her. Brianna shared that she constantly had to reassure Grace that she would never be abandoned or go hungry ever again.
Grace also initially hated going out for walks because she thinks she would get abandoned once she is outside. However, Grace eventually trusted Brianna and started enjoying strolling in the neighborhood once she realized that her mom would never leave her.
