In January 2020, York County Animal Control, an animal control service in South Carolina, received a report about a dog abandoned on the side of a road. Upon seeing the dog, it was immediately apparent that he had been through a lot.
Scooter, as he would be named later, was utilized as a bait dog. He’d been hung up upside down a tree so that fighting dogs could attack him and learn how to fight. As a result of this harsh treatment, the poor dog sustained significant damage to his face and ears.
Scooter was in such bad shape that he spent five days in the hospital and a month in medical foster care before being transferred to an animal shelter in Connecticut. His bandages had to be changed every day for two weeks and then every other day for three months.
Scooter still enjoyed people and other dogs despite everything that had happened to him. He eventually lost both his ears, but the scars left behind were a reminder of his courage.
Scooter turned his life around despite that he could have died. He has found a home where he could experience love and care and now lives with a lovely family and a rescue dog sister.
Now at three years old and living the life he deserves, Scooter and his family felt the need to thank everyone who helped him. They recently returned to York County Animal Control to honor his rescuers.
The adorable dog and his new family went to a thank-you picnic where he got to kiss everyone and show off his improvement. He reunited with his first foster mother, Elizabeth, and Ms. Nagel, the animal control officer who saved his life.
Rescuing animals is difficult and often heartbreaking. But when you witness the results of your efforts, it makes it all worthwhile.
