You can never deny that dogs love being the center of attention. They want people to pet them or watch them perform tricks. And if given a chance, they will always steal the show!
A dog named Rookie proved just that. The Golden Retriever captured the hearts of the netizens after he interrupted an exciting match at a Minor League Baseball game held in New York. It appears that Rookie isn’t a rookie when it comes to stealing the spotlight!
Dog in the field!
The match between the Lehigh Valley IronPigs and the Buffalo Bisons took an interesting turn after Rookie ran into the field out of nowhere. Apparently, Rookie was the appointed bat dog (or a pooch that fetches bats) for the team called Trenton Thunder. But the dog probably couldn’t contain his excitement that he decided to join the playing teams.
Uploaded to Twitter by Minor League Baseball, a clip showed Rookie running and jumping into the field, thus halting the game for a few moments. Then, he returned to the sides. It was explained in the caption that Rookie was actually debuting as a batboy that day. The Minor League Baseball Twitter account tagged Trenton Thunder in the video while professing its love for Rookie.
The internet loves Rookie
Rookie’s video clip currently has 1.2 million views, 10.2K likes, 1.68K retweets, and over 500 quote tweets. A lot of the replies to the video were cheeky and positive.
One jokingly commented that people should cut Rookie some slack. The dog was usually very good, but at the time, he just had to show off for all his new friends. Another remarked that what Rookie just showed everyone was the typical behavior of Golden Retrievers. A third commenter typed in all caps that people should give the ball to the dog!
