Dogs guard their loved ones in many different ways, and protecting them against a threat is just one of those. Our four-legged companions may also provide us with emotional support, especially during times when we need it the most.
A black Labrador named Penelope became an internet star after her antics were shared on social media, as shown in a video that has gone viral.
Danielle Stephens, the dog’s proud mother, explained that her father has a diabetic dog named Zara who requires two daily insulin injections. Penelope sits in front of Danielle’s father and waits for a “fake shot” to show her support for her diabetic buddy, Zara.
This entire behavior is really perplexing because we all know that dogs are scared of the veterinarian because of the vaccinations that they receive at the clinic. Penelope, however, is not scared to approach the syringe, even if it is not actually injected into her body. There must be an incentive for the dog to act in this manner and we are happy that she is not scared of it.
Danielle then revealed that Penelope’s behavior is primarily motivated by the dog goodies. After Zara receives her insulin injection, Danielle’s father gives the dog a treat as a reward for her good behavior. Penelope observed this and decided to imitate Zara so that she, too, could obtain the rewards.
We must acknowledge that Penelope is a very intelligent dog! After her amusing reaction to Zara’s insulin injection, Danielle and her father most likely couldn’t resist giving her some dog treats. Penelope may be doing it for a reward, but at least this reduces Zara’s anxiety over the situation.
It is incredible what dogs are capable of, especially when food is involved. As a result, new dog owners are always advised to train their puppies using dog treats as rewards.
