Dog Breeds That Are Commonly Mistaken For Pit Bulls

Dog Breeds That Are Commonly Mistaken For Pit Bulls

Bridget Kimpton March 11, 2024

Is a pit bull a breed or a type of dog? That is a question that most people ask themselves. It’s part of the reason we need clarification about this subject. For a fact, the American pit bull terriers are a distinct breed.
They originate from a group of working breeds descended from the Molosser dog. This is part of the reason they look like other breeds. The term “pit bull” is often used to refer to many breeds of terriers.
These terriers include the American Staffordshire, American pit bull, the bull, and the Staffordshire bull terriers. This needs to be clarified.
Crossbreeding practices and well-meaning but incorrect information make it challenging to be specific. American pit bull terrier is people-friendly and weighs no more than 60 pounds.

American Bulldog

These brutes can weigh even over 100 pounds. They’re generally white or predominantly white with patches of color. Bulldogs are working dogs. They’ve accomplished hunting and sports dogs and are a favorite in the show ring.

Presa Canario

This large mastiff-type dog can reach up to 150 pounds. It’s mighty. This working dog is used for herding cattle and guarding. This aggressive dog calls for an experienced owner who can handle his size and attitude.

Cane Corso

This dog is also known as the Italian Mastiff. It weighs from 70 to 100 pounds. It’s a guard dog and a working dog. This dog is typically not aggressive towards other dogs but naturally tends to guard and protect. As a result, it is recommended only for experienced handlers who can manage their protective instincts.

The Bull Terrier breed is frequently confused with the American Pit Bull. The bull terrier is more miniature, stubborn, tenacious, and faithful. It’s very stocky and muscular, with erect ears and a pleasant demeanor.

Boxer

It is a prevalent dog breed in the United States. It’s both a working dog and a hunter. He’s also an excellent guard dog. Very tall and proud. Boxers can gain weight up to 80 pounds and are commonly recognized by their coat, which is a fawn color.
This dog is intelligent and high-energy. It’s also great with children but can be stubborn and protective.

Dogo Argentino

This is an excellent hunting wild boar, killing mountain lions, and protecting humans. This Dogo is a fierce hunter and a brave guardian. It’s ideal for use in the military and police. The dog is large, heavily muscled, and white, weighing nearly 100 pounds. This breed has its origin in Argentina.

Staffordshire Bull Terrier

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier and the American Pit Bull have many similarities. This dog is very affectionate, amiable, and wonderful with children. It’s also an excellent family pet. It adapts to strangers very well.

Bullmastiff

This dog is enormous; it’s an excellent guardian and watchdog. It needs no training in protection. It reacts on instinct to any threat that presents itself. Very powerful and formidable. This dog is brilliant.
