Dogs are heroic in many ways. Some dogs help people cope with depression, PTSD, anxiety, and other mental health issues. Other pups offer companionship when a person gets lonely. Sometimes, dogs also help save a person’s life.
Pups may not understand all the human language. Dogs may only look at someone and try to feel if something’s wrong with their owner. Puppies are sensitive to human emotions and vocalizations because that is where they try to interpret what humans tell them.
When a dog hears a happy person’s voice with its smiling face, the pup will assume its owner is happy. If a person’s voice sounds loud and mad, the dog may whimper, showing guilt or sadness. If a pet develops a deep relationship with its owner, understanding human emotion becomes more accessible.
The dogs will know when a person is in danger or not.
An example of this type of dog is Nala. Nala is a boxer who saved her family from getting bitten by a rattlesnake.
One day, Cole Lewis, ten years old, his mom, and Nala took a walk in Lancaster, located in California. To Cole and his mom’s surprise, Nala jumped before the family and stood her ground. She took the bite of a rattlesnake to save Cole and his mom.
Even when Nala had a bite on her nose, she stayed in front of the family and waited until they were safe. After the boxer got bitten by the snake, she didn’t whine, which was an act of bravery from the pup.
The family rushed Nala to the vet to let her take the antivenin shots to prevent the venom from spreading throughout her body. The type of snake that bit Nala was a Mojave Green Rattlesnake. The Mojave Green Rattlesnake is said to have the most toxic venom and acts extremely aggressively on humans. It is best to stay away from these wild reptiles.
The vet hospital that treated Nala said that yearly, they encounter about 150 rattlesnake bites, especially during spring and fall. The desert landscape the family used to walk on now serves as a lesson to never return to it again.
According to Cole’s stepdad, Anthony Borquez, he grew up with boxer dogs. These pups are known to be protective, so they got the breed. After the incident, Nala was at home, getting better with her treatment and healing from the snake bite.
When living in an area prone to snakes, it is better to take preventive actions to avoid any harm that will cause a person or pet’s life. Houses should have a snake-proof yard to prevent these reptiles from entering–Cut grasses on the lawn, trim tree branches, and clean the bushes–the cleaner the garden, the safer the house from getting invaded by these aggressive reptiles.
