Knowing of our beloved four-legged pet’s fondness for bone and meat, it is easy to assume that canines, in general, are carnivorous.
With a genetic link to their counterparts in the wild—the greyhounds—dogs are undoubtedly meat-eaters.
On the other hand, when a dog’s stomach is upset, it tends to consume grass by instinct, which is a plant. If they do, does this imply that dogs consume veggies, too, essentially making them omnivores, as we do, than carnivores, as we most likely believe?
In fact, yes. Dogs do eat vegetables alongside meat in their diet—but not just any vegetable.
Can dogs consume tomatoes?
As a common food ingredient in the pantry, tomatoes are easy to provide as food for dogs to add to their nutrition. But, while we humans would benefit greatly when we consume large amounts of this fruit, dogs, on the other hand, require moderation in what they should consume—particularly, a probable heart and nervous system problem.
However, it is worth noting that the belief that the consumption of large quantities of tomatoes among dogs and its potential to cause health issues remains debatable. There is also an argument that says that the worst that a ripe tomato could inflict on a dog is merely an upset stomach.
Despite the conflicting views, however, please do not take your chances with your dog consuming more than a fair share of this fruit, such as limiting ingestion to small quantities and keeping it away from gardens where tomatoes grow.
Can dogs ingest carrots?
There is not anything known detrimental about letting a dog consume carrots. It would be the complete opposite.
But to keep it safe, keep the feeding limited in amount and make it easy to chew.
Can dogs feed on celery?
There is an interesting twist about feeding a dog some celery—they tend to urinate more, and their urine has a more pungent scent. But this is to be expected as celery is a diuretic, and the smell it brings to the urine is normal.
Can dogs devour cucumber?
If you are to feed your pet with cucumber, make sure it is raw and peeled, not the pickles that were soaked within the mixture of salt and vinegar, which would only likely upset your dog’s stomach.
Can dogs nibble avocado for food?
In small quantities, the green fruit part of the avocado is safe for your dog to eat. In large quantities, avocados may pose serious problems to your pet because of their natural antifungal agent called “person.”
Also, never give your dog the seed part of avocado to chew on as it, too, contains toxins and may cause intestinal blockage when consumed.
Can dogs dine on corn or popcorn?
The kernels of ripe corn are generally okay for dogs. What is not is the cob that may come with the corn.
Basically, not easily digestible to dogs, the cob, when consumed, is a potential cause for harm in the dog’s digestive system. The same logic is actual when it comes to popcorn, but try to limit the level of salt that comes with it.
