One day after Aisha Nieves got back home from a long day at work, she was surprised to see her fence wrecked. As it turned out, a car crashed into her home in Allentown, Pennsylvania. When she realized what had happened, she immediately went to look for her dog Kovu but he wasn’t anywhere to be found.
Kovu who was named after a character in Lion King 2 was Nieves’ dog for five years at the time. She first got him when he was only seven weeks old and ever since then, they have been the best of friends. So, she was heartbroken and devastated by the situation. However, she didn’t give up on looking for her furry friend and was very determined to see Kovu again.
Two years passed when Nieves’ search finally ended. She came across Lehigh County Humane Society adoptable dogs online and there she saw a photo of Kovu who was then named Ash. It has been so long since Nieves last saw Kovu but she immediately recognized him from his scar above the eye. When she asked for him, they told her Kovu had already been adopted at the time.
Nieves felt weak from hearing the news but there wasn’t anything she could do. Kovu was her baby, he followed her everywhere in the house and slept beside her in bed but two years went by and she just couldn’t take him away from his new family. But it seemed like fate was on her side. Kovu’s family called the shelter to surrender him as they were going to be evicted from their home.
The shelter immediately let Nieves know about the situation. She was very excited and nervous at the same time, especially since it had been a long time since they saw each other. But all of her worries were for nothing because as soon as Kovu met her eyes, he started wagging his tail. Nieves then got down on her knees and Kovu jumped onto her and just couldn’t contain his excitement to see her again.
Finally, they were back together in each other’s arms.
