Many vehicular accidents on the road involve a dog. Getting hit by a car is a deadly accident that no one can foresee. It can be a risky encounter for us humans.
But imagine if a poor, clueless dog faces such a fatal encounter. The chance of survival is slim, but Scout is so fortunate to survive after being hit twice by a car. Scout is a mixed German Shepherd found roaming on the busy freeways in Houston.
A dog on the Gulf freeway
Imagine the stress and fear of the helpless dog being surrounded by noisy, fast-moving cars. Seeing a dog running along the traffic on the busy road was shocking. Kaitlin Airola witnessed how cars were trying to avoid hitting the dog.
She said cars were swerving, but unfortunately, a car hit Scout for the first time. The incident injured the dog hopping on the other side of the freeway. For the second time, another car hit the dog again.
Kaitlin decided to save the dog. She stopped her car and approached the helpless dog. Other drivers also helped to save Scout.
To the rescue
The broken hind leg made the dog unable to walk and in total shock. Kaitlin took Scout in her car but didn’t know what to do. Fortunately, the rescuers arrived and gave first aid to the dog.
Scout received emergency care, and they brought the dog to the ER with the help of the two volunteers and LCAS staff. The dog also received treatment from an orthopedic specialist. He is now recovering and getting better in the shelter.
Although Scout is doing well in the shelter, the management is looking for his foster family. They were grateful for the support they had been receiving for Scout.
