A Rescue Dog Overlooked For Years Finally Got Adopted After 866 Days In Shelter

A Rescue Dog Overlooked For Years Finally Got Adopted After 866 Days In Shelter

Bridget Kimpton January 16, 2021

Charlize is a four-year-old lively pit bull mix who gets along well with dogs and people. However, her unlimited energy seemed to be too much for some; the reason for her lengthy stay at the Delaware shelter.

The rescuers said on Facebook that Charlize became the shelter’s longest resident. She’s been at the Delaware SPCA waiting since the 7th of July, 2018. Kind of stressed for being at the kennel for too long,  they added that the pooch is ready to snuggle up to her new family on her soon to be forever home.

But even with the heartwarming post, Charlize still failed to get adopted. It was a bit unfair since the pooch had already spent five long months in a different shelter before being transferred to Delaware SPCA. As time passed by, it felt like the poor pup will never get to meet anyone who’ll be willing to take her home.

Surprisingly, on her 866th day of stay in the Delaware shelter, Charlize finally got her luck. After years of being ignored, she got adopted by a U.S Veteran named Matthew, who just recently returned from his deployment.

As stated by Fox 32, Matthew, together with his girlfriend Anna has just bought a house, and they wanted to have a shelter pup to make it feel like a home. The moment that the couple met Charlize who’s cute, welcoming, and very enthusiastic for outdoor activities, they knew they’d found the missing member of their family.

According to Anna, they were unaware of how long the pup had been staying in the shelter until the day they met her. Anna also added that the pup was such a sweetie the entire time they were there to meet her. Now, seeing Charlize being excited to be in her new home with a family that loves her makes them so happy.

Even though Charlize spent most of her life in a kennel, the rescued canine was able to easily adapt to being a family dog. In just a few weeks, Charlize was already sharing a bed with her new parents Matthew and Anna. The couple had no regrets about giving Charlize a new home. Anna said that she is happy that the pup trusts them as if they have known each other for a long time already.
