Caitlin Miller Zondlo had always been into ultramarathons ever since she joined her very first one seven years ago. That was why when she decided to adopt her own dog, she knew she wanted a breed that was as energetic and outgoing as her. Border collies were the first breed to come to her mind.
You see, she used to dog-sit a border collie before and immediately fell in love with their bubbly and spirited personality. So one Thanksgiving Day four years ago, she drove an hour north from Utah to meet Star, a border collie and blue heeler cross.
As soon as Caitlin met the pup, it was friendship at first sight. She knew right there and then that they were meant to be, and she didn’t even hesitate to take her home that same day. However, the fur mom wanted to be sure that she and Star were on the same page when it came to running marathons.
So when they got home, Caitlin just dropped off the dog’s stuff and took her out for a quick five-mile road run. It was quite safe to say that Star loved it, and since then, she had been her fur mom’s training buddy for all weather conditions, be it sunny or snowy.
Over time, the border collie mix fell in love with ultramarathons, too. She even joined Caitlin in a hundred-mile race some time ago, where she ran alongside her fur mom for a good portion of the race. The fur mom was surprised at how seriously Star took on the role of her running buddy, but she wouldn’t have her any other way.
When they weren’t out running or training, though, Caitlin and her husband would take the pup on adventures just to relax and enjoy the outdoors. Look at the adorable Star in one of their recent getaways here.
