A UPS delivery driver named Ryan Arens was making his deliveries when he heard the loud cries of a desperate dog. The sound was so loud and disheartening that he immediately stopped his brown truck. He looked around, and around 15 feet from the shore was a dog trapped in a frozen pond.
Ice waters
The dog is a two-and-a-half-year-old Wirehaired Pointing Griffon named Sadie. He wandered onto the ice and fell when it broke. Shocked by the cold water, she tried to stay afloat, but her system was weakening. She couldn’t get back on top as the edge was too slippery to get a grip on.
Ryan, realizing that the dog needed help immediately, took off his clothes and rushed to the edge of the pond. He saw a man with a rowboat and asked for his help. But the boat could not get through the ice. Ryan had no choice but to go the water and smash the areas where the ice was thin.
Somehow, he was able to get to the drowning dog. He then pulled Sadi back to the shore.
As it happened, the man with the rowboat is a retired veterinarian. Both of the men took the shivering dog back to his house nearby. They then put her under a warm shower. The vet took the dog’s temperature before that, and he said that if she stayed in the frigid water any longer, she could have had a cardiac arrest.
All in a day’s work
Animal control arrived shortly and took Sadie with them. Ryan, on the other hand, put his clothes back on and got back to his route. It was as if he didn’t just save a dog’s life.
The authorities eventually found the dog’s owner and returned her. Amazingly, Ryan had a delivery the next day to the house of the dog he just saved. By then, the owner knew who he was and what he did. They thanked him profusely, and Sadie seemed to remember him.
