Mike Plas and his dog, Jack, were constant companions. They were always together and would go on many adventures like swimming, hiking, and fishing. They were so close that even when Mike went to work, the shepherd-husky mix would join him.
Missing
So when Jack went missing, Mike was devastated. Life completely turned around for the Ontario man and it was never the same. It always felt like something was missing.
Like most dedicated dog-owner, he did all that he could to look for his best friend. He visited shelters, posted flyers, and went online. Years passed and he never got any news about Jack. But he never gave up on the notion that one day, they will see each other again.
And he was right.
The call
Almost four years had passed when Mike suddenly got a call from an animal clinic based in Winnipeg. The caller asked him his name and if he had a dog named Jack. Mike was stunned.
He confirmed his ownership of a missing dog, but he wanted to make sure that the dog they found was indeed his best friend. He asked them to check if the pooch has a brown spot in his eye and if one of his toes was completely black.
The caller checked and after a few moments, confirmed the distinguishing marks. Mike was overjoyed. He dropped everything and quickly went to pick up Jack.
500 miles
Although he had to drive more than eight hours for a 500-mile trip, he thought nothing of it. At that very moment, the most important thing was to bring his long-lost dog back home.
Mike went straight to the clinic and eagerly awaited for them to bring his dog out. And when they did, they had a very emotional reunion. The tears steadily flowed down his cheeks as Mike hugged Jack. And the dog kissed and hugged him too.
Thanks to his microchip, Jack was able to go home once again.
