Before Ritter arrived at the Humane Society for Hamilton County in Indiana, he had a family. Unfortunately, they lost their home and could no longer take care of the 4-year-old American bulldog and his sibling.
According to the shelter’s marketing communications specialist, Megan Bousley, Ritter was scared, anxious, and heartbroken when he was surrendered to the shelter. Just like any other dog, he couldn’t understand where his family was. His new loud environment also terrified and confused him.
GREAT NEWSRitter has found a home!! Thank you to everyone who shared his story and reached out. Happily ever after,…

When Ritter was left alone inside his kennel, he couldn’t do anything but press himself against the wall and stare at the ground. However, whenever he’s outside, Bousley said that the pup is full of joy. While the shelter staff members tried their best to ensure that Ritter feels loved, it’s still incomparable to being with a family of his own.
Because of that, the shelter staff posted Ritter’s story and photo on Facebook in the hopes of finding him a forever home. This caught the attention of thousands of netizens, and one of them was Sophie Spenia, someone who had long wanted to adopt a dog. Spenia wished to have a large dog, so she waited until she moved to a house with more space.
Luckily, Spenia was recently able to purchase a house that has enough space for the dog that she always wanted. Since then, she spends a few minutes every morning to check the shelter’s Facebook page. That’s when she came across Ritter’s heartbreaking photo and instantly knew that he was the one.
Spenia said that she texted her sister the moment she saw the post. She told her that they have to take him home after work. A couple of hours later, her sister saw that the post was already going viral. So, Spenia told her boss about the situation. Thankfully, he’s also a dog lover, so he told her to clock out and immediately go to the shelter.
Spenia was a bit nervous knowing that Ritter was still depressed and confused after he lost his family. She was worried about how the pup would react to her. But, the moment Ritter stepped inside the visitor area, he went straight to Spenia and put his head on her lap. Everything clicked.
In no time, Ritter officially became Spenia’s fur baby, and he couldn’t be happier. He can’t help but smile while they were driving home. Thankfully, his sad days are over.
