Kim Craig, a reporter for Action News in Detroit, was driving to the city’s East Side with her friend to meet someone. While they were on their way, they spotted a huge pooch lying on its side. Next to the dog was his owner.
Kim has had a lot of experience working with animal rescue groups, so she decided to pull over. At first, they thought the large animal was hit by a car, but when they got closer, they realized that he was having a heatstroke.
Emergency treatment
According to the pet owner, she was walking her dog when he showed signs of breathing difficulties then suddenly collapsed. They were moving to their new home and no one wanted to give the large dog a ride. So they walked for more than a mile under the sweltering heat.
By that time, the dog, named Roscoe, was panting heavily and couldn’t stand up. he had already thrown up a few minutes before and there was thick drool flowing from his mouth. Kim knew that the dog didn’t have much time and needed to get emergency treatment right away. So the reporter called the founder of the Detroit Dog Rescue, a no-kill nonprofit shelter.
Kim was told by her contact to rush the pooch to the Oakland Veterinary Referral Services. She would inform them that they would be arriving. The shelter founder also told them that she will meet them there.
Stabilize the condition
Once they arrived, the medical team quickly took the weak dog and gave him emergency care. For the next several days, Roscoe was placed under intensive care. Fortunately, the vets and technicians stabilized his condition. Thanks to donations of generous people, the rescue group was able to raise the funds to cover his costly medical treatment.
When Roscoe was released he was taken in by the rescue group and they are now looking for the dog’s new forever family.
