Eleven-Year-Old Matheus Felipe Saved His Pet Rottweiler, Nitro, From Drowning In Their Family’s Pool

Eleven-Year-Old Matheus Felipe Saved His Pet Rottweiler, Nitro, From Drowning In Their Family’s Pool

Bridget Kimpton March 4, 2023

Some dogs can swim naturally. But many others either struggle or fear getting in and around water. If you have a pool at home or plan to take your dog to the beach, closely monitor them so they don’t get into trouble.

A family from Brazil learned this lesson the hard way. The Felipe family has a Rottweiler that weighs over 70 pounds. One evening, the family’s pet nearly drowned in their swimming pool.

Their security camera caught the incident. That night, Nitro was near the pool when he saw something that caught his attention. He curiously walked toward the water, but he lost his footing and fell in.

Fortunately, Matheus Felipe, an 11-year-old boy, saw what happened and immediately ran over to help. He didn’t even stop to take off his shirt before jumping in. Luckily, he came just in time to save the dog from drowning.

Dogs are great at many things. They’re good at being loyal companions, helping people out, and having fun. However, most dogs aren’t very good swimmers.

They don’t naturally know how to swim or even float very well in water. Some of them have short legs that aren’t made for paddling through the water. These short little legs make it hard for them to keep their noses above water.

Dogs with short noses also have a harder time breathing when water gets into their snouts. If a dog has long legs, it will be able to paddle more easily. Dogs with long legs may be able to float in the water without help.

Even though most dogs can’t swim without help, some of them like to play in the water anyway. That is why people must always be on guard when taking dogs into the pool and make sure that they are at a safe distance from the water.
