Mountain climbing is not an easy feat to accomplish, as some might think. Even experienced mountaineers admitted the importance of preparing the mind and body before a climb. A climber must be prepared for every possible scenario that might happen.
Reaching a mountain peak is a huge challenge that involves hardship and danger. Adding the burden of bringing a pet while climbing a mountain was an entirely different ballgame. That’s the problem a big dog named Floyd faced when he tagged along on a hiking trip.
Floyd and his owner went hiking on the Grandeur Peak trail in Salt Lake County, Utah. Unfortunately, the pair failed to achieve their goal of reaching the mountain top. The adventure-seeking pup suffered from severe abrasions and sheer exhaustion, which left him unable to continue the hike.
The 3-year-old mastiff weighed a whopping 190 pounds, which meant he needed more energy than most typical dogs. Floyd’s owner underestimated the strength required for the pup to complete the entire trip. By the time they reached the mountain top, the poor dog was too exhausted to make the trip down.
It was a good thing that a rescue team from the Salt Lake County Search and Rescue was available to help them. They treated Floyd just like they would any human who needed assistance. They carefully strapped him up and carried the weary dog down.
This non-profit organization, which was managed by volunteers, usually aided people who were injured or dehydrated during the tough climb. However, there were also unique instances, just like Floyd’s, when they helped hurt or exhausted pets.
The team shared the story of Floyd’s rescue on Facebook, and as expected, it went viral. Everyone appreciated the quick response and unwavering dedication of the rescue team. Because of their efforts, Floyd was brought home safe and sound.
