Florida Dog Rescue Group Works Relentlessly To Help A Paralyzed Dog Get A Second Chance In Life

Florida Dog Rescue Group Works Relentlessly To Help A Paralyzed Dog Get A Second Chance In Life

Bridget Kimpton September 3, 2022

Maverick is a stray dog that has gone through an unbelievably terrible past. While he was living on the streets, residents of the area where he frequently stayed said that an unknown incident resulted in his broken back. They don’t know if she got hit by a speeding vehicle or someone abused her. But in any case, he survived.

To make things worse, the injured dog got into a vehicular accident several months later, totally paralyzing his body. Although he was severely injured and left in terrible pain, he once again survived. But that would not have lasted long had a kind man not come across the suffering stray.

Put to sleep

Chris, a volunteer of a Florida-based nonprofit rescue organization named Polka Dogz Pet Rescue, saw the dog writhing in pain. He immediately got him and rushed Maverick to their facility, where a veterinarian was waiting.

They stabilized his condition, but they sought out the opinion of other vets first before starting a treatment plan. Four experts looked at Maverick, and their diagnosis was not good. According to the tests, the injured pooch had his spinal cord completely severed, and his leg bone was shattered in multiple places. There were also a lot of complications.

Most of them recommended putting the dog to sleep.

A chance

The organization’s president decided to go against their recommendation and chose to give the dog a fighting chance. They understood that the dog would never be able to use his legs again, but they could at least get him treatment for his injuries, which would save his life.

Their decision proved to be correct. In the next couple of months, Maverick became stronger and more active. They eventually got him a wheelchair so that he could move around. They saw that the dog was willing to survive.

All of the treatment, therapy, and equipment cost a lot of money. Thanks to all the kindness and generosity of a lot of people all over the globe, they were able to cover the bills. Maverick will be put up for adoption when he has fully recovered. Hopefully, there is a family out there who is willing to make sacrifices to give this dog a better life.
