Just like any other creature on earth, female dogs who become mothers are crazy about their babies. So much so that even if their puppies are no longer around, their motherly instincts are still in overdrive. That is exactly what happened after this mama dog named Pepper lost her litter of puppies.
This grieving mama pooch was brought to Minnesota for one purpose, and that is to nurse a litter of puppies who just lost their mother. Her name was Poppy, and she was Lexi Johnson’s fur baby. Poppy passed away after giving birth to all her puppies, and since then, Lexi and her colleagues took turns taking care of the puppies around the clock.
Lexi is a foster mom who works with Ruff Start Rescue, an animal rescue group from Minnesota. And through their affiliations, they were able to find Pepper two weeks later. This poor pupper lost her babies shortly after giving birth to them. It’s tragic, but Pepper is exactly who Lexi needed. Poppy’s litter doesn’t have a mother, and Pepper has no babies to take care of.
Lexi shared that as soon as she set Pepper next to the puppies, they immediately latched on to her. Lexi and her colleagues did a good job taking care of the litter, but nothing can ever replace an actual mama dog. And since then, Pepper has treated these babies as if they were her own.
Lexi said that getting Pepper to leave the pups so that she could go to the bathroom was difficult. The mama dog would make a horrible crying sound every time she was led outside. Also, when they try to pick up a puppy and walk away, Pepper would be right on their tail.
Lexi is pretty happy that Pepper came into their lives. They will be keeping the mama dog in Minnesota until the pups are ready for adoption. The dog mom is hoping that Poppy is also taking care of Pepper’s babies up there in doggy heaven, and we believe that this is the case indeed.
