There are so many horrible and sad articles about animals being mistreated, but when they have a happy ending, they are worth sharing. This is one of those stories.
Back in 2015, The Humane Society of the United States teamed with a group of authorities to help in the rescue of an extreme animal hoarding case in rural Ohio. A remote house in Adams County had been found to have over 150 dogs and cats living on the property and under extremely neglectful terms. The team found many of the animals chained outside.
One of the animals was a gentle chocolate Labrador Retriever. His chain had been entangled with a rotting deer carcass, which was apparently his only food source. After rescuing all 166 animals, the Humane Society scanned each dog and cat for possible microchips. That’s when they discovered that the Chocolate Labrador was named Chuckie, and he had a family!
Chuckie had been missing for over five years. The chocolate Labrador’s family lived in Indiana and had been relentlessly searching for him all five years. At the end of December 2015, Chuckie was finally reunited with his family. Watch their tearful and incredibly joyous reunion below:
The loving chocolate Labrador Retriever and his grateful family were reunited in time to enjoy the holidays together. What an incredible reunion story! The Humane Society analyzed all the rescued animals, and they discovered over twenty of the dogs had been imported from South Korea. They also found another dog, named Duffy, who was microchipped. But it was Chuckie’s story that made the biggest impact.
This short reunion clip sure made an impact with me. I loved reading about Chuckie and his long-overdue rescue and joyous homecoming. Neglect and abuse stories are never pleasant to read, but I am grateful I learned about Chuckie. Here’s to many more loving reunions.
