Jack Russell Terrier Hailed As A Hero For Sniffing Out 150 Explosives In War-Torn Ukraine And Keeping People Safe

Bridget Kimpton October 8, 2022

When people talk about K9 members, the first breeds that pop in their minds are the Belgian Malinois and the German Shepherd. They are big and strong canine breeds with distinct skills that make them effective in their jobs. Their physical stature also makes them look very intimidating. These are features that are not commonly associated with the small and adorable Jack Russell Terrier.

But despite their minute bodies and mild temperament, they are also highly capable of doing a good job as a K9 member. This is proven by one lovable pooch serving with the Ukrainian military.

  A hero

This highly-skilled pup is named Patron, which means bullet in Ukraine. He may not be tough-looking, but he is being hailed as a hero. He has played an essential role in saving many Ukrainian lives. As a bomb-sniffing dog, he has discovered more than 150 explosives, which has gained him many fans.

Patron is only two years old, and his small stature has allowed him to enter small spaces to do his job. His fellow officers rely on him to keep them safe while they protect the city of Chernihiv. The lovable pup, along with his handler, would be the first to enter an area to ensure that there are no dangers. And he has surely done an excellent job so far.

According to his handler, Patron is a very active dog with a keen sense of smell. They attribute it to his genes as he comes from a breed of hunting dogs. The pup is always ready to do his job and is excited to work every day.

Famous online

Videos, photos, and stories of Patron’s achievements are frequently posted on social media. Many people follow the updates and see the pooch as an inspiration amidst the daily struggles that the Ukrainians are experiencing. Along with the rest of his human colleagues, he receives numerous praise for their selfless bravery in defending their country.

Although the dog has an important and stressful job, his handler says that he is your typical average dog once they clock out. When they get back to their home at the end of the day, he loves to snuggle with his family and play with them as well. His favorite game is fetching a stick.
