Labrador Retriever Takes Swimming To The Next Level When He Shows Off His Diving Skills

Labrador Retriever Takes Swimming To The Next Level When He Shows Off His Diving Skills

Bridget Kimpton February 4, 2023

We all know that dogs really don’t like water. Whenever they know that it’s bath time, they will avoid you like the plague. However, a Labrador Retriever named Max surprised everyone when his favorite thing in the world is actually being in the water.

Max loves swimming in lakes, ponds, and the ocean. His mom, Christine, often has a hard time keeping him out of the water and if he could, he would spend hours in the water. Like most Labrador Retrievers, he’s a natural swimmer. However, he took his swimming skills to the next level by learning to dive underwater.

Max’s obsession with swimming started when he was abandoned by his first owner. Max was obese and he also had other health issues caused by being overweight. Because his weight was putting too much pressure on his legs, it meant that conventional exercises, such as walking or running were going to do more harm than good.

Thankfully, Max was adopted by a new family who was determined to help him lose weight and become healthy. The vet suggested that they take him swimming, which will help him exercise and lose weight. When Max went into the water for the first time, he instantly became obsessed. Max loved the feeling of being in the water and he also started losing weight.

Eventually, Max reached the ideal weight for his size and breed. However, his obsession with swimming still remained and Christine would often take him to a nearby lake. One day, Christine suddenly discovered that Max went underwater. She was worried and thought that something might be seriously wrong.

However, she soon realized that Max was doing it on purpose and was having a lot of fun doing it. Christine stated that seeing Max dive is the funniest thing she ever saw. His back legs and paws would be sticking out of the water and would suddenly disappear.

Christine used an underwater camera to see how Max swam underwater. To her surprise, he looked really graceful. Max would chase after a fish or reach for something on the bottom. Whenever Max is in the water, he’s like a graceful mermaid. However, despite his love for swimming, Max still hates getting baths. Here’s a video featuring Max the diving dog.
