A missing dog may end up in an unexpected place. Case in point, a pooch named Luigi was lost for several weeks and was discovered to be staying in the wilderness. But don’t worry, as he already reunited with his beloved family.
Here’s Luigi’s amazing story.
The day Luigi got lost
The black Labrador Retriever mix went missing on June 25 in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness located in Minnesota. Apparently, he was with his owners Max McKernan and Zane Brunette who were preparing for a 10-day trip with their two friends. Luigi then lost track of them.
McKernan and Brunette spent six hours looking for the dog. They even camped out for three days, putting out some greasy pans to lure Luigi back. Unfortunately, their efforts were fruitless.
Luigi’s fur parents spent almost a month creating flyers and social media announcements, hoping that someone would find him. People online were supportive of the dog parents’ efforts. Some even dispensed useful advice.
One suggested putting out worn clothing, bedding, and a can of tuna in oil to attract Luigi. Another recommended placing soiled blankets around the area, knowing that dogs have a powerful sense of smell.
On July 24, a woman named Marit Warren discovered Luigi near her family cabin. The place where the dog was found was located more than 30 miles from the spot where he disappeared.
Luigi’s back!
McKernan and Brunette’s efforts paid off in the end. They ultimately found Luigi!
After hearing the news that Warren found the dog, Brunette quickly jumped in his car and drove for many hours to retrieve his fur baby. He said Marit was the right person to find Luigi.
Little is known about how Luigi survived in the wilderness for almost a month. The dog lost more than 20 pounds and some of his toenails during his time away. Nevertheless, he is in great shape and expected to recover.
