Randy Etter, an R&B musician, started worrying when his dog, Gemini, rapidly lost weight. From 95 pounds, the young pitbull went down to 70 pounds. The pup was also vomiting frequently. It seems that he couldn’t keep his food in.
The dog started becoming weak and lethargic.
Blockage
Randy brought Gemini to a vet, and they discovered that the dog had a plastic bottle cap causing an intestinal blockage. And the situation was dire. The vet said if surgery was not done, Gemini might die.
The devoted dog owner was devastated. He was sorry to see his dog in this situation and what’s even worse is that he couldn’t afford the surgery.
He went to several vets, and they gave him the same answers. Some of them were more costly than the original quote for the operation. He felt dejected but not yet defeated.
Randy posted online his dilemma and put up his car for sale. He said in his post that he was willing to part with his vehicle even if the price was less than what he wanted. His best friend’s life was on the line, and he would do whatever was needed to save him.
And because he was finding ways to save his dog, Randy lost his day job after missing work for several days.
Donations
Help started pouring in for Gemini. One of Randy’s friends gave him 2000 dollars. It wasn’t enough, so he still tried to sell his car. But then, an Indianapolis-based non-profit organization learned about Gemini, and they raised funds for him. They even found a vet who was willing to perform the surgery at a lower price.
Gemini got his life-saving operation and recovered well after it. Several days later, he was back to his usual self. Randy is so grateful for all the people who contributed to saving his best friend’s life.
