Paralyzed Rear Legs Can’t Stop Former Stray Dog From Showing His Excitement And Happiness

Paralyzed Rear Legs Can’t Stop Former Stray Dog From Showing His Excitement And Happiness

Bridget Kimpton November 9, 2023

It’s amazing how resilient and optimistic dogs can be. Even after going through painful and abusive periods in their lives, they can still bounce back and learn how to love and trust humans again. You have probably watched videos and read stories about such canines. One of the most inspiring among them is a pit bull mix from Proctorville, Ohio named Shohei.

According to the local shelter staff, the poor canine was surrendered to them by a man who lived in a neighborhood where the dog frequented. Residents of the area told the man that Shohei was hit by a car and injured his back. Sadly, no one helped the pooch, and he was left untreated.

Two months after the accident, he was finally taken to the shelter. By then, he could not move his back legs anymore.

Aggravated

Because of the extent of the dog’s injuries, the shelter reached out to a local nonprofit organization for help. The rescue group took him to a clinic immediately. After a thorough examination, the vets said that Shohei had a compressed disc in his spine. Unfortunately, the condition worsened because he didn’t get immediate medical attention.

Had he been treated right away, there would have been a good chance that he would recover. But by then, the injury had been aggravated, and there was no hope for him to use his rear limbs again.

Good boy

After everything that had happened to him, Shohei remains a sweet and loving dog. Whenever he sees a person, he uses his front legs to propel himself across the floor. He would go near the humans, ask for hugs, and give them kisses. Although he can’t wag his tail any longer, the expression on his face shows how happy he is to be around people.

The staff of the nonprofit rescue group was impressed by his character, and they fell in love with him. Through fundraising, they got him a wheelchair. Shohei now lives with a foster family, and they are still hoping he can find his perfect forever home.
