Danielle, a member of the rescue organization Jersey Pits Rescue, was visiting an animal shelter when an animal control officer told her about a dog on a ledge. She rushed to the location in an attempt to bring the dog to safety since she was told that the dog was high up on the cliff.
Upon getting there, she summoned him and attempted to entice him with food but he refused to go down.
Danielle attempted to approach him, but he moved away. She persisted until he had nowhere else to go. She then contacted animal control for assistance in capturing him.
When he was captured, he was brought to the animal control facility. The absence of a microchip indicated that he was a stray. He was subjected to a seven-day stray hold as it was the process in case someone comes and claims him.
During this time, Danielle would pay him daily visits and take him on walks. The dog trusted her over time and even greeted her with kisses. When his stray hold expired, Danielle was finally able to take him out of the shelter.
He was fostered by couple Jessica and Vernon, who later adopted him and named him Benjamin. But despite showing energy and enthusiasm, he suffered from severe separation anxiety. They were aware that he had more behavioral concerns and they would need to really work on those.
The couple already owned a dog named Sky before they took in Benjamin. Sky was uncertain at first whether she wanted him as a brother. Benny, though, bonded with her. Sky ultimately chose to welcome him and teach him the ropes.
Sky was soon diagnosed with cancer. Benny realized that something was wrong with his sister, so he consoled her and calmed her.
Benny was a big comfort to Jessica and Vernon after Sky’s death. Even though no one understood it at that time, he joined their lives at precisely the right time. They were thankful that everything worked out, and that they had Benny help them through a challenging moment in their lives.
