It is common knowledge all around the world that if you start to feel sleepy while driving, you should pull over and shut your eyes for at least 30 minutes. This will be enough to recharge your batteries. Not to mention, potentially save your life and the lives of others on the road.
This was a precaution that Michael Crocker failed to make. The college student was driving home to California from his university in Alabama for a short break when he suddenly felt sleepy on the road. Unfortunately, instead of stopping for a while to snooze, he made the mistake of continuing to drive.
He fell asleep behind the wheel, and his vehicle veered off the road. His car hit a traffic sign and continued to roll over several times before coming to a full stop. Luckily, Michael survived. But once he regained consciousness, the first thing in his mind was to look for his passenger, his 4-month-old pup, Bella.
Most of the time, dogs who survive car crashes will get spooked and run away, and the yellow Labrador puppy is no different. Good thing, Michael’s college buddy was driving right behind him, so he got help immediately. Michael lost a thumb and suffered serious burns, but all he could think of was Bella.
They put out fliers and reached out to animal rescue volunteers to help them recover Bella. But as days turned into weeks, Michael was starting to lose hope. Fortunately, volunteers of the Arizona rescue group, HARTT, didn’t give up. They found Bella in the middle of the desert, weak and famished, weighing only 9 pounds when they found her.
Her leash got caught up in a bush that’s why she got stuck in the middle of nowhere, making it difficult to find her. But now she is reunited with Michael, who promises never to allow the same incident to happen again. He lost a thumb and suffered injuries, but all he could think of was Bella’s safety. That’s true love.
