Hope For Paws, the acclaimed animal rescue organization in L.A., received a text message about a very old dog abandoned in a cemetery. So, its lead rescuers, Loreta and Eldad, quickly headed out to save the dog. They had no clue where exactly to find the pup but they were determined to find her.
The cemetery was already closed when the rescuers made it on-site, but it was a mission that couldn’t wait until the next morning. And so, they decided to sneak in. They squeezed themselves into the very narrow opening they could find and carefully jump down the canal.
The darkness made it difficult for the rescuers to see anything. But luckily, they didn’t have to search for so long. Within a few minutes, they found the dog, which they later on named Cashmere.
Loreta tossed pieces of cheeseburger toward Cashmere’s direction to try and gain her trust. She knew she wanted to eat but the poor dog couldn’t find the food. She was probably blind, the rescuer assumed, so she used her limited ability to see and secured her quickly.
Cashmere put up a fight for a few seconds but she calmed down almost instantly when Loreta gently touched her on the head. And even though she struggled, she walked with her rescuer willingly. She wanted out of that filthy place and she trusted her rescuers completely.
Eldad climbed up and out of the wall first and then, he gently grabbed Cashmere as Loreta handed her to him. To ensure her safety, he took her to the Hope For Paws rescue vehicle and then went back for his rescue partner. They both struggled, but thankfully, a Good Samaritan passed by and helped pull her out safely.
The rescuers drove straight to the animal care center, where the vet estimated Cashmere was no less than 15 years old. She also confirmed she wasn’t completely blind. She could see but her eyesight was limited due to her old age.
Cashmere is in her golden years but she deserves a good home just like younger dogs do. She is under Loreta’s care and she will stay with her until Lionel’s Legacy, a senior dog rescue group, finds her a forever home.
