One day, a stray dog that was barely recognizable was found on the side of a road in Conroy, Florida. He was completely covered by matted fur that he could not even wag his tail. The dog was given the name Lucky by a Good Samaritan who shared the incident on Facebook.
Luckily, the post was seen by groomer Kari Falla, who owns BGE Grooming in Oviedo, roughly an hour from where the dog was found. She said she conducts a lot of rescue work and that as soon as she saw Lucky’s photos, she knew she had to help him.
Falla realized that grooming Lucky could not wait until the next day because he was in such horrible shape. Matting can be excruciatingly uncomfortable for a dog. It can even affect blood circulation. Falla contacted the person who found Lucky and requested that they meet her at the salon immediately at midnight.
When Lucky arrived, he was fragile, terrified, and covered in sores from matted fur. For hours, Falla worked on him. She claimed that the dog was really well-behaved as she was grooming him. When he was finally shaved, he looked like a whole different dog. He expressed his happiness and gratitude by wagging his tail.
After grooming Lucky, they took him to see the vet. They were told that the dog was nearly blind and deaf due to neglect. They could just imagine how afraid he must have been as he waited to be rescued by the roadside.
Lucky’s life has now changed for the better. He is thriving in his current foster home and is getting better every day.
Falla believes a little kindness can go a long way. In this case, it even saved a life. She also believes in giving back and leading by example, in the hopes of inspiring others to do the same.
