Maya, a Husky-Chow Chow mix, lived with her previous owner for a while before ending up in the animal shelter in her town. She was at a loss for several days, trying to understand what happened. When she finally figured out her owner was never coming back for her, she became so sad and lost interest in everything.
The poor dog didn’t want to do anything but cower in the far corner of her kennel. When she was in the yard, she refused to play with the other rescue dogs. She stared at them and kept to herself until it was time to go back inside her kennel.
Despite being in good health, adoption almost seemed impossible for Maya because of her looks. She was so withdrawn and depressed, and she didn’t trust people. That was until Carley, a shelter volunteer, took her out for a walk.
Carly didn’t intend to adopt a dog. All she wanted was to let Maya feel freedom even for just a while. But when the dog tried to jump off the fence while they were at the dog park, she knew Maya wanted out and had to do something about it.
The saddest shelter dog suddenly had a ginormous smile on its face. It knew what was happening, and it couldn’t contain itself. It was so happy to finally leave the shelter.
Bringing home a dog was a huge responsibility, and Carly was up for it. She worked hard so she could provide everything Maya needed – food, shelter, and medical care. She wanted nothing but the best life for her dog.
It’s been several years since Carly met Maya. Everything she’s been through, her dog was there. When she was at her lowest, Maya gave her joy and encouragement. She gave Maya a better life, and her dog gave her a purpose in return.
