The internet is full of smart and affordable do-it-yourself hacks that can improve your life as a fur parent. One particular example is from a TikTok user called @suburbvlogs or Abbie. In one of her videos, she shared a technique on how to file the nails of uncooperative dogs.
Read on if you’re curious to know what Abbie has in store for you.
The DIY scratchpad
Some dogs, including Abbie’s pooch, hate getting their nails trimmed. To address such a problem, Abbie decided to create something that her dog may find easy to use. She went to Home Depot to get some materials, which included a sheet of 80-grit sandpaper and some wood glue. Once home, she glued the sandpaper onto a board, ultimately creating a nice scratchpad for her dog.
Building the scratch pad wasn’t the only easy part. Having Abby’s dog use it was also effortless. Using some delicious treats, Abbie was able to convince her pooch to scratch its paws and nails at the pad.
Admittedly, the DIY dog scratchpad may not be as effective as a nail grinder or a clipper. Still, it’s better than nothing. It can even help your pooch get used to nail care.
The netizens react
Abbie’s video was a hit among TikTok users. Currently, it has 4.2 million views, over 480K likes, more than 11K shares, and around 1K comments.
One dog groomer thanked Abbie for giving her an idea. She said that some dog owners get mad at her when she couldn’t get their pets’ nails done, so this hack was definitely helpful. A few TikTok users also shared their own techniques. One said that she just used some sponges to manicure her dog’s nails while another suggested using an electric nail filer.
Meanwhile, some shared some unusual tips that are deemed effective. One told Abbie to play fetch with her dog on a tennis court since the ground was coarse. Someone also suggested using an old skateboard since it has a rough surface.
