It was a freezing day in Ontario, Canada. As people are comfortably snuggled in their warm abode, some stray animals are not so lucky.
In this heartwarming story, a stray dog that was later named Serenity, was found in the snow. As the passerby found out, Serenity was cuddling a family of kittens from the cold, harsh, Ontario winter.
The kittens, all five of them, were black and were just five weeks old. It is amazing to think that a dog would sacrifice itself to be out in the cold to protect a group of kittens.
And who said dogs and cats couldn’t get along?
The passerby immediately called the local Pet and Wildlife Rescue, who came and picked up Serenity and the kittens.
Even in the shelter, Serenity and the kittens were inseparable. They have formed a strong bond together.
While the kittens were treated from fleas and worms, Serenity would constantly check on them if they were okay.
The story drew international attention when the shelter posted a picture of Serenity and the kittens on their Facebook page. They believe that if Serenity had not done what she did, the kittens would not have made it through the winter, nor would they have been found as they were so small.
The shelter attempted to find out if Serenity or the kittens had an owner, but no one came forward. They have been put up for adoption as the shelter wanted them out of the shelter environment as soon as possible, and into loving family homes.
As the kittens needed a few more months to stay in a foster home before they can be adopted, Serenity is put up for adoption without the kittens.
The shelter has put up an adoption post for Serenity on their Facebook page, describing her as lively, playful, and a loving 2-year old dog who is happy to live with cats, and should be rehomed to a family that does not have small children. As well behaved as Serenity is, she wouldn’t want to accidentally hurt anyone because of her lively nature.
