Khemjira Klongsanan, a 43-year-old woman from Thailand, joined the 42-kilometer Chombueng marathon in the province of Ratchaburi.
About 12 kilometers in, Khemjira noted that the marathoners ahead of her were going in an odd direction, looking as if they were avoiding something on the road. When she approached, she saw that the object they were dodging was a little puppy.
Far from looking sad and lost, however, the Thai Bangkaew was enthusiastically wagging her tail as the runners passed her.
She must have come closer to the road when she heard the commotion and stayed to watch the marathoners.
As there were neither houses no crowds of onlookers in the area, Khemjira realized that the puppy had either run away or been abandoned there, so the runner picked her up as it was too dangerous to leave her there.
In the early stages of the race, it was easy for Khemjira to lug the puppy around as she still had a ton of energy to burn. The fluffy pooch was also well-behaved and even fell asleep in the marathoner’s arms at one point.
Khemjira notes, however, that by the end of the marathon, she was twice as tired. Still, she’s happy that she was able to carry the cute pup all the way to the finish line.
The runner thought that the dog’s owners would come forward to get their pet back after the competition. They didn’t, however, so Khemjira took her home with her and waited some more.
When several days went by and nobody claimed ownership, she decided to adopt the pup and call her Chombueng after the marathon.
After Khemjira took Chombueng to a clinic for medical exams and immunization shots, she introduced the puppy to the rest of her 11 rescue dogs.
Chombueng has become particularly close to one dog, Tung-Thong, and the two of them enjoy playing together. We’re sure the puppy will have a good life with Khemjira and her big canine family.
