Dogs can go through the process of grieving too. When they lose a friend, they tend to shut down emotionally. This can last for a while, and the owner should do their best to help the dog recover.
Chloe, a beagle, used to have a rabbit as her best friend. They did everything together and were each other’s emotional rock. Unfortunately, the rabbit passed away unexpectedly, leaving Chloe longing for companionship.
The beagle refused to function and would rather sleep all day. Her owners knew they had to do something to cheer her up. At that time, the owners adopted a cat named Chlea and introduced her to the dog.
Once Chloe saw her new housemate, vigor suddenly returned to her body. However, the two of them didn’t instantly connect. Chlea was cautious at first but soon learned how to play with Chloe.
Chloe and Chlea learned to enjoy each other’s company. The two pets got to a point where they would walk to the beach together. They also solidified their friendship by sleeping together while cuddling.
Whatever Chloe did with her rabbit friend in the past, she also did with Chlea. The dog would shower the cat with licks and vice versa. Furthermore, their cuddling positions would often change. Each of them would get a chance to be the big spoon and little spoon.
Although the cat might seem like a replacement for the diseased rabbit, Chloe provides something unique to the friendship. For example, she can go on long walks and is more active than the late bunny. With that being said, Chloe is more like a different best friend than a replacement.
The owners were proud of their decision to adopt another pet. They loved seeing Chloe become happy again. After watching her grieve for a while, this was a welcome sight.
