When the pizza delivery guy rings your doorbell, you’ll definitely drop everything and rush to the door. That sense of urgency also applies to dogs. A Pembroke Welsh Corgi named Butters proves that in a viral TikTok video. When he heard that his owner poured something into his food bowl, he suddenly rushed to his feeding area.
Here’s Butters’ adorable story.
Food is life
In the said TikTok video, you could Butters sleeping peacefully. His owner crept away from him and went to his food bowl. Then, the owner dropped a grain of rice into the bowl, producing a quiet yet distinct metallic sound. Sure enough, the Corgi suddenly woke up.
Butters rushed to where his food bowl was, hoping to get some snacks. The text on the video explained that Butters’ ears are sensitive when it comes to food. The owner’s shenanigan is reminiscent of an experiment conducted by the renowned physiologist and psychologist Ivan Pavlov. In that experiment, Pavlov conditioned dogs to associate the sound of a bell with food.
The netizens’ reaction to this feel-good video
Butters’ video currently has more than one million views. It also has over 184K likes, 2K shares, and around 250 comments.
One commenter, who owns two Corgis, said that she had the same experience with her pooches. She shared that whenever something hits the floor or the food bowl, her dogs act like vultures. Butters’ owner replied to this comment, saying that Corgis are so motivated by food. The good thing about it, however, is that it makes training easier.
One netizen said that the video felt incomplete, explaining that she needed to see Butters actually getting food. Another had the same sentiment, hoping that Butters was given snacks and water. Butters’ owner said that the dog receives two healthy meals a day, water, and treats during training. Meanwhile, someone joked that Corgis’ ears are open all the time because of food.
