Puppies born with deformities are quite common. This is mainly because of genetic defect due to generations of inbreeding.
Most of the time, puppies born with deformities are euthanized. It’s always sad to see dogs with disabilities get euthanized before they even have a chance to experience life.
A great example is Nubby. Nubby is a boxer puppy who only had two legs and almost died just hours after being born.
When Nubby was born, he only had his two back legs. The two front legs were missing, and the veterinarian suggested that he should be euthanized.
Although his mom didn’t reject Nubby, he simply wasn’t strong enough to feed by himself. The other puppies kept pushing little Nubby out of the way when he attempts to feed.
Nubby would likely perish if no one intervened. Thankfully, Lou Robinson decided to take Nubby home with her to foster him and take care of him until he could find a forever home.
She knows it in her heart that every animal deserves a chance, and she wanted to give Nubby a chance at life. Lou’s husband, Mark, fell in love with little Nubby as soon as he set his eyes on the puppy.
The couple went to research how to keep such a fragile puppy alive, and they found that Nubby needed to bottle-feed at an angle to prevent the milk from entering his lungs. Nubby thrived thanks to the couple. Nubby started discovering things as soon as he opened his eyes just like a curious little puppy would.
However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. Just three weeks after Nubby arrived in his foster home, his health problems started. He started sneezing and refused to eat. His foster parents also noticed that Nubby had milk bubbles blowing out of his nose.
The found out that Nubby inhaled a lot of milk when he fed and suffered from aspiration pneumonia. They also discovered that Nubby ha an esophageal abnormality that trapped fluids inside the esophagus, which is responsible for having the fluids make its way to his lungs.
The veterinarian gave Nubby antibiotics and placed him in an oxygen chamber. Although Nubby struggled to breathe, his health started improving.
Growing up, Nubby doesn’t realize that he’s any different from the other dogs. He’s very active and smart, and he even learned to move even without his two front legs.
Nubby would crawl, or he would push his face off the floor and stand with his two back legs. Nubby grew up to be such a happy dog.
He does hops like a kangaroo to get from point A to point B. Nubby’s always excited about everything and would create happy mischief for his parents.
Here’s a video showing more exciting things about Nubby. You’ll never believe how active this dog is despite missing two front legs. Thanks to the compassionate couple who took in Nubby, we all get to see how amazing Nubby can be.
