Two Stray Dogs That Had Been Living In A Shelter For Almost A Year Were Luckily Adopted By The Same Family

Two Stray Dogs That Had Been Living In A Shelter For Almost A Year Were Luckily Adopted By The Same Family

Bridget Kimpton June 6, 2023

Donna and Karan were small mixed-breed dogs living in Licking County, Ohio. They were transferred from a shelter to the Licking County Humane Society because they showed extreme fear. They had not been socialized with humans on a regular basis, and that made them fearful of humans’ presence.

The caretakers of the animals worked daily to earn the animals’ trust. After months of interacting with caring individuals, the dogs began to emerge from their shells. They began to welcome their caretakers with wagging tails and sloppy kisses.

The employees of the shelter observed that Donna and Karan were a bonded pair. They were only at ease in one another’s presence. With that, the employees looked for adoptive parents who were willing to take in both dogs. Their new parents should also have a home with a fence and no children or hyperactive pets.

However, Donna and Karan never warmed up to strangers on adoption day. They were timid in the presence of strangers and so they were continually disregarded.

Despite the efforts of the shelter employees to find adoptive parents for them, no one showed interest. Even though Donna and Karan’s story appeared twice in the news, no one seemed interested in adopting them together.

More than 300 days had gone, and they were still waiting for a family to adopt them. However, the shelter employees continued to post online and assure people that the animals were friendly.

It may have taken a longer time than usual but a family finally came to the shelter to adopt the two dogs. After Donna and Karan spent 347 days in the shelter, the Peori-Humbert family made the adoption legal.

The family had everything the dogs needed to enjoy a stress-free and happy life. Donna and Karan even got two furry siblings.

Life could not be any better than that.
