Graycie was a homeless dog found in the middle of a busy street. Graycie was severely sick and afraid of anyone who came near her because she never had any human contact and lived as a stray her entire life.
Graycie’s rescuers brought her to a veterinarian named Dr. Mathis because they did not know where else they could bring the pup they just rescued. Dr. Mathis immediately checked Graycie, and he was surprised to see how fearful she was with everyone.
Dr. Mathis recalled that Graycie always hides in the corner whenever he puts the pup’s food in the kennel and only ate if he is not around. Dr. Mathis knew that he needed to do something to fix Graycie’s aversion towards humans, so he decided to sit inside Graycie’s cage and encourage her to eat with him while sitting right beside her.
Dr. Mathis began eating his meals inside Graycie’s kennel because he wanted her to get used to his presence. Dr. Mathis shared that he hand-fed Graycie a little bit to get her to start eating.
Dr. Mathis recalled that Graycie eventually started eating by herself after continuously giving her words of encouragement. However, Graycie was still scared and stayed in the corner as soon as she is done with her meals.
Dr. Mathis said Graycie started eating on her own with confidence after three days and was not that afraid of him anymore. Dr. Mathis shared that Graycie’s appetite improved five days after she has been rescued.
Dr. Mathis shared how proud he was when he saw that Graycie was finally coming out of her shell. Dr. Mathis said that he was supposed to find a loving home for Graycie, but he ended up adopting her because he grew attached to her and could not let her go anymore.
