Woman Finds A Photo Of An 11-Year-Old Pittie On Social Media And Decides To Adopt It

Woman Finds A Photo Of An 11-Year-Old Pittie On Social Media And Decides To Adopt It

Bridget Kimpton January 7, 2023

McKinnley was a woman who never had a dog before. She had no plans of adopting one, or at least that’s what she thought. But when she saw Iris’s photo on social media, her plans changed.

Iris was a senior dog that lived in an animal shelter. None of the staffers knew much about her, but they all agreed that a senior dog like her didn’t deserve to be confined in a shelter. They did what they could to find her a home, but most potential adopters weren’t interested in her because of her age.

Everyone thought the senior dog would most probably spend its remaining days inside its kennel. When McKinnley walked into the shelter, they were stunned. They were in disbelief that someone was interested in Iris but equally joyful for the dog.

That same day, McKinnley went home with her very first rescue dog. She was excited to spend days with Iris and was ready for whatever challenges will come her way. Despite people telling her she wasn’t up for it, she didn’t back down.

There was no saying how long Iris was at the shelter, but it surely took a toll on her. She became insecure and anxious and needed some form of assurance that she was safe. Whether she went for a walk, took a nap, or drank water from her bowl, she had a toy to keep her company.

Eventually, Iris adjusted to her new life. She became a happy dog, learned how to play with toys, and discovered the comfort of a couch. At last, she learned how to be a dog.

Iris spent 4 glorious years with McKinnley before she crossed the rainbow bridge. Within the short time she had with her mom, she was the happiest.

McKinnley was devastated when her dog bid its final goodbye. But it was because of Iris that she decided to adopt another senior dog, Petunia. And for the years to come, she will continue to rescue more dogs because Iris inspired her and imparted to her the actual value of life.
